Substance Abuselady crying

According to the American Society of Addiction Medicine (2006), Addiction is a primary, chronic, neurobiological disease, with genetic, psychosocial, and environmental factors influencing its development and manifestations.  It is characterized by behaviors that include one or more of the following:  impaired control over drug use, compulsive use, continued use despite harm, and craving.
Addictions counseling is a specialized area of clinical practice.  Addiction counselors diagnose and treat mental disorders as they relate to the use, abuse and dependence of addictive substances.  Addiction counselors are trained in the biological, psychological and social aspects of addictions and are licensed or certified in their discipline of study.  Because addition touches so many live, the clinicians at Change is Possible not only see individuals who face addiction, but couples and families who face addiction together.  The services provided may include, but are not limited to, counseling (individual, couple, or family), education about drug and alcohol use, the process of addiction and the medical aspects of drug and alcohol abuse, and insight into social and family functioning in the addictive process. Please call our office at (586) 264-3692 to schedule an appointment today!
